How long does it take to do a backup? |
The duration of a backup depends upon several variables. Not only does the duration depend upon the data transfer size, but also the type of network connection you have, and system bandwidth. Typical small businesses can backup around 1 GB of data per hour.
The first backup can take a long time. After the initial backup, only the changes to the data are sent over the internet.
Seed Load
In order to complete the initial backup in the shortest amount of time, it can be done using a local drive. The first full backup is sent to a USB drive instead of directly to the backup server via the internet. The USB drive is then brought to the data center and the backup data is copied directly to the backup server. This 'seed load' method can get a large backup done in hours instead of days.
Please contact us if you wish to use the 'seed load' for the initial backup.
